Prehistory in Alghero |
|
The oldest evidence of human presence in this area was found inside a natural cave called Green Cave. It is located within Capo Caccia cape. The cave was used as a place for worship since 5000-4000 years BC. Very close to Alghero at 6 km from the crossroads to Porto Torres, there is Anghelu Ruju Necropolis which, with its 36 tombs, is considered the largest prehistoric cemetery in the island. Besides it is possible to look at the remains of a Roman villa with baths and mosaics dating to 150-200 AD in Sant Imbenia area and the ruins of a Roman bridge partly collapsed, but in course of restoration. |
